This lecture will provide the background and describe research progress in using plant viruses as protein shells capable of carrying drug molecules. This is a small but growing area of research that has shown great promise. There are challenges associated with production of the plant viruses, but the data show efficacy of certain plant viruses in targeting melanoma tumors. The seminar will provide a discussion of the challenges associated with research and development as well as commercialization of a new technology.
