报告题目:Solid-state depolymerization of lignin in inorganic ionic liquid

An innovative process was demonstrated for the fractionation and depolymerization of cell wall components (lignin, cellulose, and hemicelluloses) of lignocellulose in an inorganic ionic liquid (acidic lithium bromide trihydrate (ALBTH) system) under mild conditions (40 mM HCl at 110 °C). It was found that lignin could be efficiently depolymerized in the solid state without dissolution, while cellulose and hemicelluloses were almost quantitatively hydrolyzed into monosugars. The resultant lignin had low molecular weight (Mw = 2,000 ~ 4,000) and abundant uncondensed moieties (i.e., Hibbert’s ketones and benzodioxanes), which had not been identified and detected in isolated lignins before. Study using lignin model compounds indicated that the lignin depolymerization was catalyzed by LiBr and acid synergistically in ALBTH via the crucial α-benzyl carbocation intermediate. The cleavage of the β–O–4-aryl ether bond led to the Hibbert’s ketone, while the ring formation followed by demethylation resulted in the benzodioxane. Condensation occurred when lignin model compounds were treated in ALBTH system, but the condensation of the real lignin in biomass was very limited in the ALBTH, because the solid-state depolymerization prevented the ?-benzyl carbocation intermediates from condensation with the electron-rich aromatic sites of lignin due to their locked mobility and accessibility in the solid state.

潘学军教授现为国际木材科学院院士,美国威斯康星大学(麦迪逊分校)生物系统工程系终身教授。分别获得天津科技大学化学工程和日本北海道大学生物科学博士学位。2006年加入威斯康星大学之前,曾先后在天津科技大学、日本北海道大学、美国佐治亚理工学院、美国明尼苏达大学、加拿大英属哥伦比亚大学从事教学研究工作。潘学军教授长期致力于生物质精炼制备平台化学品、生物能源及生物基功能材料的研究工作,曾主持包括NSF Career Award在内的4项美国自然科学基金项目和数十项其他科研课题,发表论文100余篇,总引用次数超过7000(H因子39)。现任国际期刊《BioEnergy Research》副主编、《Journal of Biobased Materials and Bioenergy》和《International Journal of Agricultural and Biological Engineering》编委。
